Sail across the Bay of Biscay from Portsmouth to the Canaries.
The Voyage
This trip will give you a good taste of offshore sailing. Leaving at the end of October you will sail from Portsmouth down the English Channel, across the Bay of Biscay, down the Coast of Spain and Portugal and on to the Canaries. It will get warmer as you head south! You may well stop in Cascais in Portugal along the way.
You will get about 1500nm under your belt.
The Boat
The yacht is a Challenger 72 and well suited to such a voyage. She was built to sail the ‘wrong way’ around the world, a feat she accomplished twice. Since then she has sailed across the Atlantic numerous times and taken part in several Fastnet Campaigns. She is well maintained and is ‘coded’ to category Zero under Maritime and Coastguard Agency regulations. This means she is capable of sailing anywhere in the world in terms of her structure, the safety equipment she carries and the qualifications the Skipper and Mate have.
Down below she has a two heads with showers, a spacious galley and saloon area, bunks for everyone on board, a water maker and a full sized chart table with all the navigational equipment needed for such a passage.
Aboard will be a professionally qualified Skipper and Mate, plus two watch leader to keep you safe and the yacht running smoothly.
