Sail across the Atlantic from Antigua to Portsmouth.
The Voyage
This trip is not for the faint hearted. Leaving in early January we sail from Antigua in the Caribbean across the Atlantic Ocean to Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth. We allow 35 days. You will start in shorts and t-shirts and arrive in plenty of layers and oilskins! You will get a real variety of weather, wind strengths and direction.
You will likely stop at the Azores for a few days. You will sail about 3500nm.
You will likely be pushed but the sense of satisfaction upon reaching the UK will be enormous.
The Boat
The yacht is a Challenger 72 was originally built to cross oceans 'the wrong way round'. This means she was built tough enough to withstand the worst sea conditions. She has a steel hull with a rig that is comfortable sailing upwind in heavy seas. Down below she has a spacious saloon and galley, and a navigation station with all the bells and whistles. You'll get your own bunk to sleep in, so you won't have to hot-bunk. There are two heads, each with a shower and there is a water maker on board.
She is ‘coded’ to Category Zero which means she meets all MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) safety requirements in her structure, the safety equipment she carries and the qualifications of the skipper and mate. Consequently she is fit to sail anywhere in the world.
Aboard will be a professionally qualified skipper and mate, plus two watch leaders to keep you safe and the yacht running smoothly
