How To Find Us

Sailing location

Firstaway Yacht Charters operates in the sheltered waters of the Solent and Southampton Water on the South coast. This enables sailing to continue throughout the year, particularly as our boats are fitted with hot air heating.

The Solent benefits from the close proximity of the Isle of Wight, which shelters it from the worst of the weather. Current weather forecasts. As a result, the Solent provides a near ideal environment for Corporate Entertainment and days out, Team Building events, nervous crew, beginners and for Training / Tuition, lively social evenings ashore.

It also offers a great environment for the 'shakedown phase' before setting off to Northern France and the Channel Islands.

Business location

Firstaway Yacht Charters is located at Shamrock Quay Marina SO14 5QL in the Solent.

Shamrock Quay Marina (SQM) is a good location for chartering having full time access and modern, spacious moorings. If requested the Harbour Office staff will assist in mooring up - helpful in some wind and tide conditions.

It also has a Chandlery, Pub/Restaurant called The Cove, and the 'Yellow Welly' snack bar where a good English breakfast can be found.

The Tesco Express mini supermarket at Ocean Village Marina is only a few minutes away by car for those last minute bits and pieces.

Southampton city centre with all its amenities is only a short drive away.

There is a modern toilet block, adjacent to the Harbour office. The staff in the harbour office are very helpful and have a small shop supplying basic provisions. The carparking facilities are good with free parking (subject to Terms and Conditions) in the public area (which tends to be freed up at weekends) and a dedicated bertholders car park close to A & B pontoons.

The Firstaway berths reside on 'B' pontoon and are accessed by a security gate at the southern end of the marina.

Boat access into the marina can be gained at most states of the tide, although care should be taken at low water springs and in respect of the tide - 1 hour before low water and 1 hour before high water. At these times the current can flow across the berths rather than straight up and down the river.

Day trip with great skipper

Excellent company, with a very well appointed boat (Zara). Nothing was a problem to them, despite me chopping and changing a lot. Our skipper - Gavin - was fantastic. Knowledgable, friendly and great company. I would certainly use this company again.- ASQC
